Maria Keil (1914, Silves - 2012, Lisbon, Portugal) was a renowned Portuguese painter and illustrator, considered part of the second generation of Portuguese modernist painters. She gained prominence for her work with tiles, starting in the 1950s, and became a key figure in modernizing this art form. Notable works include the tile panel "O mar" in Lisbon and extensive contributions to the Lisbon Underground, where she designed panels for stations such as Arroios, Alameda, and Roma. Keil participated in international exhibitions, including the 1978 "5 Séculos de Azulejo em Portugal." She was awarded the Commander rank of the Military Order of Santiago da Espada in 1980 and continued to be celebrated for her work, receiving honors even late in life.
